Musée de la Faïence de Montereau

"Popular Pottery"

The Montereau Museum of Pottery displays fine French earthenware dating back to the late 18th century. Once an industrial center of France, Montereau and neighboring town of Creil manufactured high quality pottery as early as 1745. After over 200 years, the factories closed in 1955, and then in 1985 reopened as the Musée de la Faïence de Montereau. Their collection, which consists of over 400 unique pieces, allows visitors to trace the evolution of pottery from pre-industrial times well through the 20th century.
