Opened in 2008 as one of the largest centers of its kind in the Carolinas, DPAC hosts hundreds of performances a year, ranging from high profile concerts to Broadway productions, stand-up comedy routines, and festivals. The center is recognized for its contemporary steel and glass design, and features 2,700 seats with intimate sightlines. DPAC’s “Heart of the Arts” community outreach program runs master theater classes for local students, and invites the students to backstage tours, orchestra rehearsals, and post-performance discussions.

The Pinhook is one of Durham’s favorite bars and concert venues. Known for fostering a sense of community, the bar hosts monthly events like open mic nights, karaoke parties, square dances, drag shows, and arcade game tournaments. The bar is named after the settlement of Pinhook, famous for a grog shop of the same name and the rowdy, fun-loving crowd it attracted.

This comedy club and restaurant has been a great alternative to the dating standby of dinner and a movie since 1983. The club showcases all types of comedians, from newcomers to famous celebrities, while serving guests dinner and drinks specials from an in-house bar and grill. Tables for parties of four or less are offered through general admission on a first-come, first-serve basis, while larger groups are encouraged to make reservations. The club also hosts a comedy academy of stand-up workshops, and a lively schedule of open mic nights. .
