Often claimed to be the "birthplace of American paleontology", Big Bone Lick State Park was established on site of an ancient salt lick, which probably lured many animals. Dedicated to preserving and protecting wildlife, Red Wolf Sanctuary, established in 1979, provides a safe habitat and rehabilitates hundreds of animals each year. It offers a fantastic opportunity to observe the native animals in nature. Open to the public by appointment-the sanctuary provides guided tours to visitors.
