Originally built for noblemen from Auvergne in the 12th century, the Château de Montmorin is a shadow of its former self, although its ruins are still considered hauntingly beautiful. This medieval castle consists of an impressive gatehouse structure, which is flanked by two towers. The museum within the castle offers a glimpse into excavated objects, arms and armaments from the Middle Ages, and other traditional tools. From the elevated point on which the castle stands, one can view the surrounding mountain range.

This marvelous piece of architecture lies at the foothills of the Gergovie plateau in the Auzon Valley, and is surrounded by unending stretches of landscaped gardens. Built in the 14th century for Lord Gerald of Aultier, the Château de la Bâtisse also served as a rest stop for pilgrims heading to the St Jacques de la Compostela in the later years. Visitors interested in history can spend most part of their day at the castle grounds, where guided tours and brilliantly put together reenactments bring alive the glorious past of the castle.
