"A Country Escape"
Evidence of indigenous activity in the Willandra Lakes Region traces back roughly 15,000 years, when the Wongaibon people inhabited the north and the Wiradjuri people occupied the south. European settlement started simply in the 1830s with pastoral endeavors, but the area quickly developed into sheep-shearing territory under the Vickery Partnership. In 1971, the Willandra Lakes Region became a protected territory and national park, enjoyed by many. Among the park's non-human residents are emus, kangaroos, echidnas, and an array of reptiles. Be sure to swing by Big Willandra Station when you visit.
