The Stampede Corral Arena

The Stampede Corral Arena in Calgary, Canada is a historic place, built in the 1950’s. The arena is used for multiple events which includes ice-hockey, rodeo and was built to replace the degrading Victoria Arena. Fans remember this place for the countless memories it holds for them. Unfortunately, talks are on for breaking down this arena, in order to expand The BMO Center. The Stampede Corral will always remain significant for being so rustic and popular, in this day and age of modern, sophisticated arenas.

Seating over 19,000, Calgary's Scotiabank Saddledome has a bit of something for everyone, including professional hockey, rock concerts, rodeos, circuses, conventions and more. Stampede Park is a sprawling outdoor event venue that is reputed for hosting the major events and happenings in the city. Although it hosts a plethora of formal as well as informal events throughout the year, it is mostly remembered for hosting The Calgary Stampede Festival, a ten-day event dubbed “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth,” that draws about a million visitors to Calgary every year.

Max Bell Centre

Popularly known as Max Bell Arena, the Max Bell Centre is thronged with spectators for various exciting events. From local sports to various shows, this arena is well equipped to host it all. The center has two ice rinks, which are apt for ice hockey and winter games. Along with a seating capacity of 2121 people, it also has three meeting rooms.

McMahon Stadium

McMahon Stadium is a large outdoor sports and concert venue in Calgary, with a seating capacity of 35,400. Located between the University of Calgary and the Banff Trail LRT station, it was used in the 1988 Olympics. Over the years, the stadium has played host to many concerts by notable artists like Ozzy Osbourne. It is also home to many of Calgary's major sports teams, including the Calgary Stampeders. Whatever the weather, the stands are packed with maniacal fans, often in varying degrees of drunkenness.

Olympic Oval

The Olympic Oval, one of the sites of the 1988 Olympic Winter Games, continues to be a solid attraction for tourists. The massive silvery-white roof that covers this huge building on the University of Calgary campus is an engineering and architectural marvel. The facility remains the fastest speed skating track in the world, with records routinely shattered at World Cup competitions staged each year. Several national teams, including Canada's, train here, offering fans a chance to have very close brushes with the skating elite. The track is regularly open to the public for skating on regular or rental speed skates.

WinSport Canada Olympic Park

Canada Olympic Park was the venue for the 1998 Winter Olympics and offers a variety of adventure sports facilities. These facilities are used both by high-performance winter athletes and by ordinary, adventurous, Calgarians. The bobsled track immortalized by four Jamaican sledders continues to be used for World Cup events. The downhill ski slope is a popular entry-level spot for skiers, while the half-pipe area crawls with local snowboarders. The park also gets steady summer use by cross-country and downhill mountain bike racers. Inside the main COP building there is a restaurant/bar and the Olympic Hall of Fame and Museum. Prices vary according to activity.

Spruce Meadows

One of the world's great equestrian facilities is located in the rolling ranch lands just south of Calgary's city limits. Built and maintained by the Southern family, this sprawling site is now home to some of the world's top show-jumping events. The facilities are also a year-round attraction for horse-lovers and aspiring competitive riders. Competitions occur on six different grass rings, including the main venue that can seat 30,000 spectators for events. Four major competitions take place during the season, the biggest of which occurs in mid-September.
