University of Helsinki Assembly Hall (Helsingin Yliopiston Juhlasali)

A part of the cherished and monumental Helsingin Yliopisto (Helsinki University), the Juhlasali or Assembly Hall is truly a piece of art. It reflects the same beauty and elegance of the main university. It is a huge hall, flanked by beautifully designed white pillars from one side. Beautiful sculptures placed around add to its beauty. Chandeliers hanging from the ceiling along with comfortable seats reflect sophistication. It is well lit as the windows allow ample of sunlight into the hall. The hall can accommodate around 700 odd. Installed with high tech audio video equipments, that includes computers, music and CD players, it is ideal for all types of functions and events. Teatteri Avoimet Ovet

Avoimet Ovet (Open Doors) is a multi-function theater company, which organises not only theatrical performances, but also cabaret, monologues, poetry readings and even sing-along evenings or debates. One of their aims is to combine the beauty of words with that of music, so you will find concerts as well. Although the company does not tour actively, it visits stages both in Finland and abroad about twice a year, under the direction of Liisa Tandefelt. Some performances are produced in cooperation with the Goethe Institute, Nuoren Voiman Liitto and the Tampere City Theater.

Koko Teatteri

Koko Teatteri was founded in 1997, and received the prestigious Valopilkku award in the same year. The director and leading figure of the company is Anna Veijalainen. Koko is not a regular theater company, but a network of 60 artists (dancers, actors, directors, choreographers, musicians, set designers, etc.), who create extensive and wide-ranging productions using music, dance and drama. The theater works mainly on a voluntary basis, funded by sponsors and ticket incomes.

Q-Teatteri is a small theater company which specializes in modern Finnish theater. It works in close coordination with other Baltic theater companies, and is part of the Baltic Circle, an informal forum of around 30 theater companies. The company stages mainly contemporary and alternative theatrical work.

KOM Theater (KOM-teatteri)

KOM Theater was established in 1971. It started as a touring company, getting its permanent home stage in 1978. KOM is one of the wonderful small theaters in Finland. It has won several prizes, such as the Suomi, Venla, Telvis and Valopilkku. It was also appointed Theater of The Year for 1999-2000. Music is a very important part in KOM Theater's performances, and they have also released several records. Though the company now has a permanent location it still tours around Finland and abroad as well. Performances are mainly in modern and classical drama, but they also put a great emphasis on their own productions, concerts and cabaret-style performances. For bigger audiences some of the performances are held in Savoy Theater. Tickets can be bought at the box office or the Ticket Service (in Kaivopiha, Mannerheimintie 5 and Stockmann department store).

Uusi Iloinen Teateri

Uusi Iloinen Teateri is associated with legendary names like Marjatta Leppänen, Matti Kuusla, Lasse Mårtenson, Jaakko Salo and Jukka Virtanen, musicians who have entertained Helsinki. It has been the venue for a lot of musical concerts by famous artists like Laura Voutilainen and Jukka Rasila.
