Tokyu Hands has branches all across Japan and most of them are full of customers because of its enormous variety of 'things' you can buy. It sells just about everything, from home and garden supplies, toys and clothes to miscellaneous gift and souvenir items. Tokyu Hands is also the 'do-it-yourself' enthusiast's paradise. This branch, with nine floors, including one basement floor, is conveniently located in Senba, a popular shopping area.

Daimaru is one of the more recognized department stores across Japan. There are actually two branches in Osaka: this one in Shinsaibashi and the other in Namba. The multi-story buildings house just about everything you could need for your wardrobe, home and garden or office. The majority of items available are generic lesser-known brands, making the department store an extremely affordable place to shop. Do keep an eye out for sales - they are frequent and worth a visit. Opens daily at 10am.

Not to be confused with Hep Five or Hep Navio, two other shopping centers nearby and run by the same company, this Hankyu Department Store—the main branch in Osaka—is conveniently located right above Hankyu Station, which is attached to Osaka's main station. Given its location, it is packed with both merchandise and people. But even if it were located elsewhere, this would be true. The selection of items for your home and wardrobe is enormous, and the prices are fairly reasonable as well, with sales an almost weekly event.

An alternative to the traditional department store, Loft is the choice of the young and the hip. While the clothing selection is minimal, just a few hats and other accessories, the choice of stationary, handbags and house wares is impressive. Loft is where you can find the perfect throw pillow for the couch, an interesting set of Tarot cards or a briefcase sure to be the envy of all in the office. But don't stop there; be sure to make your way to the “party section” and pick up a Halloween costume—Samurai and other Edo era characters are always popular for a gag gift.

This huge department store stocks just about everything you could possibly need from souvenirs to take home to furniture and musical instruments. You will find many of the world's top brands of clothes, sporting goods and accessories as well as kimonos and top-class Japanese ceramics. The food hall, which is housed in the basement, stocks a good selection of imported food as well as the best of local produce. The ninth floor is home to the Kintetsu art gallery and some excellent restaurants, more of which can be found on the 10th floor.
