Situated in the basement of a former factory, Downtown is well known as one of Dresden's classic party locations, where you can go time and time again. It is split into three rooms and by no means huge when taken as a whole, but this adds to the style of the place. There are bars in all three rooms and the music varies. Its mostly 70's disco on the main dance floor or anything "nice and danceable" while everywhere else it's house. Friday night is party night and sometimes on other weekdays there are films, concerts and dancing. The punters are very laid back and tolerant and there's no compulsion to wear anything too trendy. The main thing is dancing and having fun with plenty of flirting. Most people are in their 20's and it is gay-friendly.
Located on the very busy Alaunstraße, Katy's Garage was once a tyre garage, it now offers its guests an array of Indie Pop music with local artists from the genre performing here. They have a different theme each day with excellent music being spun by the DJ. At Katy's there is something special for everyone. There is also a pool table and other games housed here.
