Buen Pastor Cathedral

This striking cathedral was architect Manuel Echave's project, and was established in 1897. On the steps of this Neo-Gothic structure, the symbol of the town in many ways, is one of the most popular meeting places in town. The height and interior space of this cathedral are exceptional. It is the biggest church in San Sebastián and well-situated, surrounded by gardens and imbued with a charming aura.

Parte Vieja

This is the city's social and historical center, and it offers an endless array of shops and bars. This is where most of the communal fiestas take place, and the sought-out party spot for tourists who plan on being in town for just one or two nights. But you will see something of how the locals live if you wander around the narrow, winding, cobbled streets and through the little squares. Don't miss the Basílica de Santa María del Coro or the San Telmo Museum next door to Plaza de la Constitución.

Parque de Cristina Enea

This interesting and spacious parkland has an irregular but attractive topography with both flat and hilly areas, an artificial lake and a stream. Another of the bonuses of this park is the variety of flora to be found here. In the highest part is the "Duque de Mandas" Palace, built in the English style. Today there are significant areas set aside for the practice of various sports, as well as some quieter pathways for walking. The whole area is municipal property, thanks to a donation made by the Duke of Mandas.

Basílica de Santa María del Coro

The building of this basilica occupies a traditional religious place in the city. The Basílica de Santa María del Coro consists of an open area, typical of Basque churches, with three naves of equal height covered by ribbed vaults constructed in 1771. In the interior the juxtaposition of the altarpiece and the laterals is striking. Access to the church is through a lateral in the form of a niche, richly decorated with two towers, and perhaps the building's most outstanding feature. Furthermore, the portal is perfectly integrated into the urban setting as a feature at the end of the city's main street.

Monte Urgull

Behind the Parte Vieja, Monte Urgull looms, showing off a Christ statue in the style of the Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro. At the top of the mountain is Mota Castle, a fortification which dates from the late 18th Century. On one of the slopes, you'll find the Naval Museum. You can climb up the mountain by taking one of several paths. The hill's summit offers spellbinding views of the surrounding vistas, and tourists can explore the historical environs of the captivating mountain.

San Sebastian Port

The port has always been extremely important to the city's economy, both for its commercial and fishing activities. Fishing is still an important function here to this day. Boats have docked here since medieval times, though the port's appearance today is the result of various extensions and remodelings undergone over the years, the most recent of which was completed in the 20th Century. The apartment buildings along the quay, for example, were built in the late 19th century, and rest on the protective wall of the hill behind them. Today the quay is not only important for fishing, but also for leisure activities. You'll find a nice variety of typical restaurants serving fish (of course), the Aquarium and Museo Naval, or the mooring dock for sporting vessels.

La Concha Beach

Undoubtedly La Concha Beach is one of San Sebastian's most scenic beaches. Its beauty makes it one of the prettiest places in the city to take a walk. A good place to start your walk is on the quay, then pass between the Royal Nautical Club and the City Hall. Owing to its pleasant environs and refreshing atmosphere, the beach makes for an exhilarating spot for water sports and other recreational activities. It also offers several vantage points from where you can admire the sparkling bay.

Peine de los Vientos

This fantastic sculpture is a harmonious combination of architecture, sculpture and nature. You'll find it at the end of Ondarreta Beach below Monte Igueldo. Luis Peña Ganchegi designed the square to fit the landscape as it climbs the hill but remains open to the sea. When the tide comes in you'll hear water rushing through the pipes on the ground. The waves break over the sea wall and flood the square. Eduardo Chillida created the series of huge sculptures called El Peine de los Vientos ("Wind's Comb") that have been placed on nearby rocks.
