Measuring in at 4-floors, the mall is divided into 5 different parts: Fashion Central, Oasis Boulevard, Asian Avenue, Marrakesh and Kidz Zone. All told, this shopping mecca houses more than 800 specialty shops. Also, you can go ice-skating in the indoor ice-rink if you would like to take a break from all that shopping. This Kuala Lumpur institution in its present form has been around since 1937. Central Market is a treasure trove of handmade items, souvenirs, custom-made crafts and art. At this wonderful shopping center/market, you'll find various stalls and small shops offering unique wares. Batik textiles can be found throughout and make for a great souvenir. A nearby theater puts on traditional wayang kulit (shadow puppet shows).
Chinatown's Petaling Street is one of Kuala Lumpur's most popular tourist destinations. In the evenings, part of the road is closed to traffic and it transforms itself into a bustling night market. A line of stalls come to life in front of the pre-war shops, offering products of every description, from fake leather goods to the obligatory Dunhill watches. The area attracts many locals and visitors in search of bargain items, including inexpensive dresses, shoes, fabrics and souvenirs.
