As the name might suggest, the Londoner Brew Pub is an English-style microbrewery, serving excellent pub-brewed beers that are a refreshing change from the usual range of available in Thailand. The style is that of a big city pub, with enough seating including quiet booths, a bar, dining tables and pub stools to accommodate the biggest crowds. The food ranges from a spicy Thai menu through to more traditional Western pub fare, including some great burgers, kebabs and even Yorkshire Pudding! There is a stage with live bands and big screen coverage of sporting events too.
Enter through the narrow doorway into one of the most dazzling looking bars in Bangkok. The Iron Fairies' decor appears to be a cross between an iron factory and a fairy grotto. Immediately on entering, there is a wrought iron spiral staircase. Moreover, inside seating is along a bar supported on metals, poles and cogs, or at small tables along the wall. The decor also includes burnt crumbling brick walls, old leather satchels, lights in wire cages, jars of 'fairy dust', chains and industrial pieces of machinery: it is all very atmospheric! The owner is also a blacksmith who creates the 'iron fairies' in the workshop/restaurant, and you can purchase his works at the restaurant. The menu is mostly burgers, although tiger prawns and salad are available, and the food arrives on a heavy wooden block. Drinks include wines, beers and potions (cocktails).
Mikkeller is the popular microbrewery chain from Denmark that has finally made its way to Bangkok. The only branch of this brewery in Asia, it has set high standards for other beer brewing places in the city. The bar is known or its rustic yet innovative approach as they produce some quirky and unique beers, which are impossible to find anywhere else. Their experimental approach, and the limited batches have been a major crowd puller. They offer 30 varieties of tap beers and bottled brews to choose from.
