Fitting very much into the so-called gastropub genre, Union is a veritable haven for Jakarta's yuppies (and a few older types as well). However, this is definitely not a case of style over substance, since the food is of the very highest order and meticulously prepared. Take, for example, the Bourbon pork ribs. They have been slow roasted for a long six hours, and it shows since it is incredibly tender and utterly delicious. Moreover, some concessions have been made to local tastes, although the creativity has always been maintained. Mie ayam (chicken noodles) with foie gras anyone? If you don't fancy anything too heavy, dig into a freshly baked item from Union's bakery. The drinks menu, as you might imagine, is extensive and includes a selection of wines and awe-inspiring cocktails. – Martin Jenkins
