Run by an American-Balinese couple, one can get authentic apple pie as well as chicken satay here. One of the original eateries in Ubud, this three-story, cozy restaurant has the Ayung River at its feet. Be sure to go down to the lowest level to see the view. Sample the tasty special grill dishes and the thick and delicious juices and lassies (blended yogurt). Beer and local wines are served as well and there is no corkage charge. A small shop of high-quality crafts and jewelry is on the top floor.
If you're hankering for some local meat preparations, Babi Guling Slingsing will keep you happy. Babi Guling Slingsing literally means pork roast, and, as the name suggests, the local eatery offers a small but delectable selection of barbecued meats that are done up in traditional Indonesian style. For a great price, the restaurant offers a great treat.
This little wayside eatery has patrons raving about its barbeque and seafood dishes. Expect huge chunks of tender meat, delicately spiced to perfection, in addition to the Thursday night fresh tuna sashimi. Hefty burgers, sizzling hot dogs and spicy curries are also served up, as customers engage in cheerful banter. Designer Donna Karan has added a bit of glamour to the place too! Pair your meal with a dizzying martini from the very competent bar section, and you are bound to emerge with a sated belly and a smile!
Some of the city's best cuisine is to be found at the local “warung”, or street side stall. And this one in the south is famous for its seafood. Step out of the Inna Grand Bali Beach Hotel, to get a taste of this sizzling joint, located just down the street. Soups, stews and fried fish concoctions in spicy sauces fill the place with a heady, yet appetizing aroma. Noted patrons include the late Indonesian President Achmad Sukamo, among others. With a beachfront location and killer prices, the place is, understandably, a crammed hotspot at meal-times.
