Tucson's "alternative" movie cinema is a two-story theater dedicated to showing independent and foreign films. Occasionally an artsy Hollywood film will run, but that is rarely the case. The features generally run every single day, and every Saturday night the cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show plays at midnight. Concessions are sold in the lobby.
Housed within the Student Union Memorial Center at the University of Arizona, the Gallagher Theater was built in 1971 as an on-campus movie theater. Back then, it consisted of 630 seats, which after renovation was brought down to 340. Today, the cinema is equipped with digital technology and a snack counter and continues hosting theme movie nights as it did earlier.
