The venue's history reaches as far back as 1934, when it was opened as the Kiel Opera House, and since then it has featured prominently in the music and theater events scene of the city. The building boasts an Art Deco style of architecture, with an impression of the Beaux-Arts style also evident in its features. In all, the opera house has a capacity of 4,500 in a theater-style setting, with the theater alone accommodating about 3,100 guests. Named after the Gaslight Square which was once comparable to New Orlean's Bourbon Street, The Gaslight Theater is one of the only remaining cultural venues in this neighborhood. It is a lively venue for theater, musical performances and the like. Plays tend towards burlesque and several stand-up comedy acts can also be found performing here. After renovation, this intimate theater now accommodates 99 people in the audience and can be rented for events.
The Pageant, a concert venue featuring an eclectic mix of live music, has showcased artists such as Gomez, The Thrills and Lucinda Williams. This space is intimate, ensuring a unique concert experience shared between audience and performer. The open floor is perfect for grooving to the music but there is also a balcony with seats for guests that are looking to get a clearer view in a more relaxed setting.
Voted one of the Top-10 comedy clubs in the nation by USA Today, this branch of the Funny Bone Comedy Club was established in 1981 and is the first of the club's many locations throughout the states. The featured acts will have guests rolling with laughter and feeling proud to be a part of a club that donates part of its profits to charity. The seating capacity is 300 and guests must be 18 to enter. The walls are adorned with pictures of famous comedians. While no meals are served, customers will find a tasty appetizer or two. In addition to the selection of hot wings, chicken fingers, nachos and an awesome mini burrito, guests will find a selection of mixed drinks, beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages.
