Boise Philharmonic

Although country-western music still reigns in Idaho, the Philharmonic soothes classical music fans with a rich selection of concerts throughout the year. Performing in the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts or Swayne Auditorium in nearby Nampa, the area's best musicians perform everything from Berlioz to Beethoven, often attracting international artists. The repertoire includes Handel's Messiah in December and a free family concert in May.

Boise Contemporary Theater

Rising from an old warehouse, this Boise Theater is home to several acting companies. The 25,000 square-foot facility seats about 230 people in a simple, brick wall-lined space. However, theatergoers will find plenty of color in the lobby decorations and, of course, on stage. Fulton Street Theater and Balance Dance Company call it home, while the Idaho Shakespeare Festival offers classes and houses its administrative offices here.

Albertsons Stadium

This Albertsons Stadium looks like any other until you see the turf - it's blue! Located on the campus of Boise State University and home to the BSU Bronco Football Team, this popular stadium is also used by many other athletic teams. In the fall football dominates, but come spring nimble tracksters sprint around the track. In June the stadium becomes the focal point for local high school graduations. The 30,000-seat stadium was dedicated to Lyle Smith, a former BSU football coach with a history for winning teams.

Boise Little Theater

This community theater resembles a dome-shaped hat sitting on top of a plain, almost dumpy, body of a building. But inside the Boise Little Theater, there is nothing plain about the acting. One of the longest-running community theaters in the nation, this theater provides Boise audiences with live entertainment from one-act plays to melodramas. Past season highlights have included "Noises Off" and "Exit the Body."
