Located in a building that once housed a bookstore of the same name, Pageturners Lounge is a classy addition to the Omaha bar scene. The bar has an extensive beer selection from around the country on tap, as well as specials - order the house special and get a Tecate and a shot of Old Overholt rye whiskey. The crowd here tends to be young and trendy, probably owing to the fact that the bar is co-owned by local son and famous musician Conor Oberst.
Special brews draw locals to this small, neighborhood grill. Beer connoisseurs will enjoy sampling regional tastes. Guests planning to wash down a meal can choose from salads, burgers, sandwiches and daily specials. The Baked Potato Soup deserves a mention of its own. A customer favorite, it appears on the menu year-round. Space inside is limited, although the bar is bigger than it looks.
Even though you are in Omaha, you will feel like you are in Berlin when you visit Huber-Haus German Bier Hall. This pub aims to provide an authentic German beer bar complete with delicious pub food. Main draw here are the dozens of authentic German brews on tap, many of which is super hard to find in America including varieties from breweries like Paulaner and Warsteiner. The kitchen serves up traditional German dishes and snacks, as well as offering weekly specials like taco night.
If you truly love beer, you have to make sure you visit Krug Park when in Omaha. Inside the bar (which was built in 1908) an old-time decor of wood and brink enhances the atmosphere. But it is the craft beer menu that keeps their customers coming back again and again so they can try a rare brew that just got put on tap. The bar also offers bloody marys and other spirits apart from beer.
How can a night at the bar get any better? By adding arcade games and pinball machines, that's how. And Beercade promises just that, with about two dozen arcade games and a dozen pinball machines spread out over two levels. These include crowd favorites like Mario Bros., NBA Jam, and Galaga. In addition to the games, the bar here serves up a great selection of microbrews and IPAs. The bar can also be rented out for parties and other events.
Slowdown is owned and operated by locals Jason Kulbel and Robb Nansel. The drinks here are reasonably priced, and for all you Boulevard Wheat lovers, this is haven—they have it on tap here. They have superb quality sound system and an excellent jukebox. Also the layout is well thought out. Be sure to check this one out that next time you are in Omaha.
This fun restaurant/bar in the Old Market, formerly an old firehouse, has two levels: the first floor houses a bar and restaurant, the second story has multiple pool tables and a full bar. It brews its own beer and root beer, and you can see the vats from the restaurant. A full list of hard-to-find micro brews is available. The food is excellent; start with the artichoke dip, then try the grilled steak fajitas for a great meal any night of the week.
