Situated in the heart of the city center, the Orchard Square is a shopping precinct opened in 1987, and was designed architecturally in keeping with the Victorian design of the Town Hall opposite. Inside the courtyard is a Continental-style clock tower, where every hour traditional steel-making figures appear from doors on the front of the clock as it chimes. The center houses large branches of high street stores as well as smaller favorites. Next door is the Sheffield Wednesday supporters' shop, which also operates as a ticket outlet. Steps lead to some unusual craft workshops.
The Forum, a two-floor shopping emporium, is located in the heart of the Devonshire Quarter, where people go to see and be seen. The ground floor of this atmospheric arcade houses a select number of independently-run shops and boutiques, which offer designer, club and street-wear perfect for any night out. Upstairs, the top floor has closed for the construction of a large pool hall. Once you've shopped, relax in the Forum Cafe on the ground floor.
The Meadowhall Shopping Centre is a must for anyone visiting Sheffield. Whatever your views on shopping, you cannot fail to find something to your taste here. Situated two miles to the north of the city center, just off the M1 motorway and easily accessible by any form of public transport, this center is worth a visit for its impressive dome-themed architecture alone. The center boasts two hundred plus stores with nine major department stores, and options for dining and a cinema.
Crystal Peaks is a large out-of-town shopping arcade and entertainments center. Its design is modern and airy, and a glass lift and escalators connect the two floors. The upper floor is dedicated to the usual established high street shops with a large newsagent, pharmacy, and department store. There is also a large indoor market. Entertainment and leisure are the focus of the ground floor. A selection of eateries are on offer, and a ten-screen UCI cinema draws in the crowds every evening. Outside the main precinct, you will find all the amenities you would expect from a small town, including a bus station, library, post office, estate agents and travel service. The center as a whole is wheelchair friendly.
The impressive Peak Village, which has an exceptionally large range of goods at very good value, is a 20 minute drive from Sheffield, in the heart of the Peak District. The village contains over 20 retail outlets, which stock a huge range of discount designer, fashion and sports wear, as well as quality home furnishings, luggage, cookware, toys and gifts. You are sure to find what you are looking for at prices much cheaper than those on the High Street here. Across the courtyard is a choice of eateries and a children's play area is also available. The center also houses a Wind in the Willows attraction, where children will love to see the classic story come alive.
