When the emperor suggested that a local organization for boaters should be established the Lubeckr Yachtclub was founded on August 30th 1898. Since then the club has always organized annual events. It is the leading sailing society in the Lubeck bay and one of Germany's largest sailing clubs. The LYC has 1060 members today and maintains two harbors for yachts with 166 moorings, one mooring with 100 units for yawls.
