The Fountain Detroit brings a bit of the beach to the Downtown. Open seasonally, this lively, open-air eatery and bar is arguably the best outdoor dining experience in the heart of the metro. The operating base is set in shipping containers while the enclosing area is decked with beach furniture, sand and umbrellas for shade. Situated right in the middle of Campus Martius Park, with the lovely Woodward Fountain as a backdrop, it is a fantastic place to nosh on casual fare, tipple on drinks and indulge in some people-watching.
Detroit residents know that Joe Muer is a name synonymous with the highest quality, freshest seafood. The original Joe Muer closed in 1998, but its rebirth brings its offerings back to Downtown Detroit. Located in Detroit's iconic Renaissance Center, the menu features a delicious mix of nostalgic dishes and contemporary ones. Joe Muer Seafood also serves a nice little selection of sushi rolls.
Master Chef Jimmy Schmidt is well known around Detroit for his seafood and meat emporiums. His iconic Rattlesnake Club is a very open, airy and elegant space near the Detroit River (and despite the name, rattlesnake is not on the menu). What is on the menu, however, are seasonal dishes from a great selection of small plates to meat, fish and a char-grilled section. Huge flower arrangements and colorful paintings set off the oak tables and chairs in the main dining room. A porch area is also open for dining.
You'll be hard pressed to find a better burger place than Mercury Burger Bar. Located on Michigan Avenue, this restaurant is known for serving flavorful loaded burgers. They also offer small bites to perfectly complement your burgers. Their turkey special California turkey burger, salmon burger and shroom burger are quite big hits among loyal patrons. Apart from their trademark burgers, they also serve salads, hot dogs and sandwiches. Beverages include delicious milkshakes and draft beers. Locally owned and operated by David Stiekne and Dennis Fulton, this place has an artistic decor, designed by famous artists Jerome Ferretti and Dan Gilbert.
Le Petit Zinc serves up the classic flavors of France in a comfortable atmosphere. Sample delicious dishes like all kinds of sweet and savory crepes with fillings like Nutella, chocolate and banana, honey or lemon sugar and the salad section features different varieties. The rest of the menu is referred to as 'The Classics' with dishes like Quiche Lorraine, Ratatouille and assiettes (platters) of charcuterie, smoked fish, and cheese. Le Petit Zinc is an ideal space to relax with friends or family, gorging on delicious French fare.
El Barzon is a popular restaurant which was established in 2007 and is situated in the heart of the city of Detroit. Known for its Italian and Mexican cuisine, this place is a famous haunt for the locals of Mexicantown. The food here is absolutely scrumptious and appetizing. The site also features an outdoor seating area, where you can enjoy your meals when the weather is perfect. A definite must-visit!
La Dole Vita is a little piece of Italy nestled in the heart of the scenic Palmer Park district. The restaurant's decor is reminiscent of an Italian trattoria, featuring chandeliers, flagstone walls and vintage accents. Patrons can even dine in the lovely patio area amidst floral gardens and live music. Rustic Italian cuisine is the highlight of the menu and brings together flavors from North and South in form of exquisite dishes. An excellent wine list and decadent desserts perfectly round off the dining experience. Reservations are recommended.
