This small specialty coffee house in the Quartier Latin offers freshly-roasted coffee and some nice although limited food options. It’s a great place to stop for a drip coffee or espresso and a quick bite to eat. Most of the food items, including all breads, cakes, and granola, are made in-house or delivered daily. Locals come for the flat whites, which have a nice texture and are more smooth than bitter. The atmosphere recalls the reclaimed wood and concrete minimalism of so many coffee shops, but the place manages to stay inviting with shelves of books and some art hanging from the walls.

Except in summer when they put out chairs, it's easy to miss Café Riese when you go shopping along the Schildergasse, but there's plenty of interest inside. If you go past the bakery and the praline counter on the other side, you'll get to two huge rooms, where mostly older people are having coffee and cakes or other smaller confectionery. It's often so full that it's difficult to find a place, though. It's even busy on Sundays, when there are almost as many people as when the shops are open. Regardless of whether you want to sit down inside, the praline counter is definitely worth a look.

Café Wahlen can look back on quite a few years of Kaffeetradition. Centrally located on the Ring, it mainly caters for a loyal, regular clientèle. Thick carpets and fancy décor that are hold-overs from the 50s and 60s (including some rather peculiar wall-hangings) are the surroundings in which you can choose from a variety of coffee blends. South American brews are served in old-style German cups. By the way, the Hohenstaufenring and the Hohenzollernring are often confused - the Hohenstaufenring is at Barbarossaplatz.
