America's long and glorious history is shaped not only by political events but also by culinary landmarks and centuries-old establishments where many of the country's great thinkers met. Almost every state has a time-honored treasure that still welcomes visitors, whether it's America's oldest tavern, the '76 House in New York, or the White House Tavern in Rhode Island, which dates back to the 17th century. Here's a handy list of America's oldest restaurants to help you connect with the country's rich culinary heritage.

Miners and Stockmen's

Miners and Stockmen's dates back to 1862 CE and claims to be Wyoming's oldest surviving bar. It was carved by hand and the chocolate brown tin ceiling holds testimony to the fact. Seated underneath vintage golden chandeliers, order a Filet Mignon or New York Strip Steak served with sautéed mushrooms, mashed potatoes or other side dishes. Enjoy the desserts along with German, Argentine and Californian wines. The only signs of modernity in this historic steakhouse are the television screens. So head here to experience old-time recipes and stories in plenty.
