Mantua is a beautiful Italian city, located in the Lombardy region. It is known for its stunning architecture, including the Palazzo Ducale and the Basilica di Sant'Andrea. Ducale Palace

The Ducal palace, Mantua, now a museum, is a grandiose complex of palaces built by the Gonzagas between the early 14th and 17th Centuries. Encompassing an area of 34,000 square meters (365972 square feet), this architectural marvel comprises stunning edifices, beautiful gardens and magnificent courtyards. Basilica di Sant'Andrea di Mantova

Basilica di Sant'Andrea di Mantova is a beautiful church, located in central Mantua, that exudes an archaic charm. The construction of the church dates back to the 15th century. It is adorned with a rich Renaissance design with a beautiful facade and stunning elevations in its interiors. Besides being famous for its stately architecture, the Basilica di Sant'Andrea di Mantova is visited by hordes of tourists and pilgrims to have a glimpse of the relics of the holy blood of Jesus Christ, which is kept in sacred vessels in the church. These vessels are on display only on the Holy Friday and are then brought on the street for a procession. Though the entry to the church is free, a small donation is required for a visit to the crypt.

Rotonda di San Lorenzo

Rotonda di San Lorenzo is an eleventh century church located in Mantua. It is believed that this church was raised or reconstructed on the site of an erstwhile Roman temple, the columns and other remnants further accentuate the fact. Over the period of time, this Romanesque Church has undergone several renovations and modification, for quite a long time it was closed to general public too. In 1926, it was re-opened to all and tourists from all over visit this ancient church. Admission is by voluntary donation.

Museo Di Palazzo D'Arco

Built in 1784, the Museo Di Palazzo D'Arco was a home for the royalty through their ruling years. Now, the palace has been converted into a museum as per the request of the last descendant of the family. You can take a guided tour through the several art galleries, library and other rooms, that give you a peek into the rich life the kings led. A must go for the lovers of history.

Teatro Bibiena

Nestled right in the heart of the city, Teatro Bibiena is a historic theater that dates back to December 1769. Constructed by Antonio Galli Bibiena, the structure was designed in the early Rococo and late Baroque architectural styles. Used as a theater even today, it also functions as a museum and the interior is characterized by monochrome frescoes that are credited to Bibiena.

Piazza Sordello

Dedicated to the 13th century poet Sordello, the Piazza Sordello is one of the largest squares in the town of Mantova. Built in 1330, the square has been the center of town life since centuries now, with several administrative offices and places of worship located here as well. There is a section with Roman mosaic flooring at the southeast corner, which makes for an interesting find.

Cattedrale di San Pietro

The Mantua Cathedral is the chief cathedral of the city which seats the Diocese of Mantua. The first structure which was built here dates back to very early Christian Era. However, it was destroyed and was later rebuilt in the Ninth Century and again in the 14th Century. The facade of the cathedral has been done in Gothic style. The interior, which was built later when the earlier inner structure was destroyed in a fire, follows the Baroque style with a beautiful rose window and intricate frescoes and canvases.

Castello di San Giorgio

And why wouldn’t it be? When the Castle was built back in the 14th Century C.E. over the remnants of the Church of Santa Maria di Bove Cape, it made history.
