Nederland is a town in Colorado with a population of about 5,000 people. It's located in the mountains, west of Boulder. There are lots of hiking and biking trails in the area, and the town is known for its annual ice sculpting festival.

Carousel of Happiness

Where can you have a fun ride on a chimpanzee, a llama, a duck, a horse, a panda, a dolphin, and many such animals? Well, on a carousel, of course. The Carousel of Happiness in Nederland, Colorado, wrapped in fond history, is an attraction you should not miss. Opened on Memorial Day in 2010, it was dedicated to all the fallen veterans. Scott Harrison, a native of Nederland and a war veteran, leaped at the chance to build the carousel, which brought him great joy, and he wanted others to experience it. Having found solace with a small music box playing Choplin's "Tristesse" for many years, it remained the music to which the carousel went around. It took 25 years to build the carousel with the framework of the famous Looff Carousel and hand-carved animals. From a Michelangelo painting to murals of endangered animals, fairies fluttering around, and animals big and small, the entire carousel gives you a whimsical feeling. The residents raised funds and gave the carousel a firm structure, and built a shopping center around it.
