Interesting sights in the Quaint town of Libby, Montana

Libby is located in the northwest corner of Montana, nestled in the Cabinet Mountains. This small town is big on outdoor recreation with hiking, camping, fishing, and hunting all nearby. In the winter, skiing and snowmobiling are popular activities. Libby is also known for its excellent schools and friendly community.

Kootenai National Forest

Kootenai National Forest is a 2.2 million-acre (890,308 hectares) haven of woods and wilderness stretching across Idaho and Montana in the northwest U.S. This forest is the primary timber-producing forest of Montana and the abode of beautiful flowers and berries in Spring. Scenic hiking and mountain biking trails slice through the wilderness, and outdoor enthusiasts can also enjoy climbing and picnicking here. Additionally, visitors can try their hand at horseback riding or attempt fishing in one of the many streams meandering through the forest. It is also home to elk, moose, and deer, and one may even spot a mountain lion or grizzly bear if in luck.

Turner Mountain

Kootenai Falls Swinging Bridge

Kootenai Falls Swinging Bridge is a suspension bridge on the beautiful Kootenai River. Straddled by coniferous forest groves and towering peaks, the spectacular bridge makes for a great photo op. While the original bridge was destroyed in a flood in 1948, a new one was built on concrete piers in its place. Today, visitors can take a detour on Highway 2 to reach the bridge. The Kootenai Falls parking lot leads up to the bridge through a short trail. Once at the site, you can admire breathtaking views of the surrounding region and explore its scenic environs.

Heritage Museum

Heritage Museum is housed in a unique twelve-sided log structure that has a diameter of 130 feet (39.6 meters). Finding a mention on the National Register of Historic Places, the museum is home to unique artifacts and exhibits that explore the history of Libby and narrate stories of its intriguing events of mining, early settlements, and logging. Walk through the exhibits that include stories of the infamous W.R. Grace vermiculite mine and its asbestos contamination, newspaper and interview clips, old photos, household items, and more. The old Sylvanite Cookhouse on site now serves as a community gathering space, where you could catch a local event.
