The Black Box is a great space for intimate gatherings. Whether you are attending a poetry-reading or listening to a band, there are sure to be some interesting people to meet. The space contains anywhere from 50 to 236 people, and there is a cafe serving fair trade coffee and snacks, open on the weekdays. The space is friendly and dynamic, and there is always something going on.
The Lyric is a small independent theater in Stranmillis Village, close to Queen's University. It has a strong tradition of supporting Irish playwrights, as well as being a springboard for local actors who have made it onto the bigger screen. It's safe to say that whatever is on while you're in town is worth seeing. There is a bar on the premises. The theater is small and the seating steep. There is an induction loop system in the auditorium, there are signed performances and the entire complex is wheelchair-friendly.
Located in Newtownabbey which is just a few miles from Belfast, Theatre At The Mill is a great theater which brings to life a number of classical plays and dramas with its interesting repertoire. Expect nothing short of the best each season as the talented troupes take center stage. The foyer and auditorium can be hired for business, social and private events, and catering is taken care of. The award-winning ISLAND Arts Centre is the pride of Lisburn, and one of the most versatile venues that hosts a range of events regularly. In that sense, the name 'Arts Centre' is a bit of a misnomer! Their annual program is choc-a-bloc with something for everyone, whether the performing, literary, visual or verbal arts.
