The Grand Opera House is one of the city's great signature buildings. Restored to its Victorian glory in 1980, it is a masterpiece in gilt and plush scarlet. The pièce de la résistance of this lavish interior being the elephants that support the boxes. The venue maintains its operatic traditions, with regular visits by some of the world's greatest opera companies. In recent years, the Royal Ballet and the San Francisco Ballet have both performed at this venue as well as artists taking part in the annual Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival. Ticket prices vary per performance.
The Black Box is a great space for intimate gatherings. Whether you are attending a poetry-reading or listening to a band, there are sure to be some interesting people to meet. The space contains anywhere from 50 to 236 people, and there is a cafe serving fair trade coffee and snacks, open on the weekdays. The space is friendly and dynamic, and there is always something going on.
Belfast Empire Music Hall is one of Belfast's most popular music spots. It's hip, vibrant and gets some of the best bands from around Europe. Most are tribute bands, but if you're into that then you're guaranteed to relive some of your favorite musical moments in history. So if you're in the mood to bob your head to music you know and love, this is the place to be. In February, the Empire holds concerts from the Belfast Nashville Songwriters Festival. Good music teamed with good food is a combination that can never go wrong and Belfast Empire Music Hall's 'Basement" makes sure no one goes hungry. All said and done, this place is a perfect venue to hang out.
