[m]eatery leaves no one guessing on what kind of diner it is. This 2009 steakhouse and bar in the boutique Side Hotel is a popular spot for meat lovers. Its chic decor with green and brown accents, matching furnishings and handmade Atlantis hanging lamps is refreshing. But the highlight is the display of cured meat in a glass enclosure. Their beef is procured from Argentina, Europe and the United States of America. Their steaks have a distinct flavor and crunch as they are grilled at 800 degrees Celsius (1472 Fahrenheit). Their lunch menu includes a wide range of burgers and sausages while the dinner consists of tartar, salads, steaks and fish. These include dishes like Avocado Hamburger, BBQ Bacon Burger, Shrimp Burger, Ligurian Sausage, Beef Tartar, T-Bone, Filet Mignon and Porterhouse. Complement your meal with a choice drink from their extensive drinks list.
Doris Diner is known among the locals as one of the few places in Hamburg where you can actually get a good hamburger. An American restaurant sitting on the edge of the University Campus, its interior feels like the classier kind of diner: friendly, comfortable and just that little bit nostalgic. Aside from their famous burgers, Doris Diner serves a large and varied menu of American style foods covering anything from bagels, wraps and salads to rump steaks, ribs and chicken wings. They have an extensive breakfast menu- consisting largely of pancakes- and quite a few Mexican dishes. All this is, of course, enjoyed with a big milkshake and from the comfort of a red vinyl seat. -Eva Oladottir
Bullerei is known for picking simple German fare and transforming it into something truly special. The restaurant still maintains its old slaughterhouse walls, with the exposed red brick creating a lovely ambiance that goes well with its minimal lighting, high industrial ceiling and comfortable chairs. They have an outdoor area as well, where the grilling is usually done, and although service can be a little sluggish at times, it is well worth the wait. Some of the dishes on the menu include beef tartare, burrata, baked fish and many other specials. End the meal with one of their lovely desserts.
The Bird is famous for its huge burgers. This American-inspired restaurant has huge portions and a creative menu of tasty burgers. Savor their Drunk Ghetto, The Jack, the very hot Chicken Wings Napalm, The Big Crack, Da Birdhouse, Fat Stingy Gonzales, The Dr. Zlan and Rib Eye Mastercut. These ground beef sandwiches might not be appealing to the eye, but are surely delicious. Complement your meal with a beer or any choice drinks.
