Arc de Venet

Come and experience modern art outdoors! Close to the famous Place Masséna and set in the beautiful surroundings of the Albert I Garden, towers Bernard Venet's huge arc. It stands over several tens of meters high and seems almost to touch the sky. Despite its gigantic proportions, the structure has an amazing feeling of lightness about it. This contemporary work of art has had no trouble winning the hearts of the people of Nice and has become a modern symbol of the neighborhood.

Palais Lascaris

Tucked away in a narrow street, the richly colored and decorated facade of this palace is flanked by old red and ocher buildings typical of Nice's old quarter. The interior is in sumptuous baroque style, the vaulted ceilings are decorated with frescoes above huge sweeping staircases. There are also 12th century furnishings, Flemish tapestries, a recreation of an 18th century pharmacy (and a gift shop).

Cours Saleya

Cours Saleya is a favorite meeting place for locals and as the city's best-known pedestrian district. It is attractively laid out; filled with colorful stalls and lined with pleasant café terraces and restaurants. Every day is vibrant here, from the flower market Marché Saleya to the Marché aux puces (antiquités) and the Marché Artisanal Nocturne on summer evenings. No matter what time of day it is, there's always something going on at this bustling market.

Colline du Château

Situated on the hill between the old town and the harbor, this park is a favorite with locals and tourists alike. Surrounded by a typically Mediterranean backdrop of pine trees, carobs, figs, and aloes, the park's impressive waterfall, children's play area, breathtaking views over the city, medieval ruins and Maritime Museum are all part of its appeal. Reach here on foot, by car or take the lift from Rue des Ponchettes at the foot of Bellanda Tower.

Musée et site archéologiques de Cimiez

Situated on one of the city's most prominent hills, far from the hustle and bustle of the town centre, Nice's archaeological museum is renowned for its remarkably well-preserved Roman baths dating back to the 2nd & 3rd centuries C.E. Objects on display, such as vases and jewellery, have either been found during excavations or brought in from other archaeological sites. A small store offers a range of books on the Cemenelum (Cimiez) site and Nice in general, as well as reproductions of some museum pieces.

Promenade des Anglais

A big favorite with locals and visitors alike, the Promenade des Anglais stretches along the seashore for several kilometers. The promenade's characteristic blue chairs provide the perfect vantage point from which to take in the expanse of the azure blue sea that stretches out before you. It took its current form in 1822, when Lewis Way, an Englishman who lived in Nice during the winter months, financed the promenade you see now. It is free of charge, whether you wish to stroll along its length or bask in the warmth of Nice's sun.
