This grill is very well situated in the center of Bilbao in one of the areas with the greatest concentration of services. This means that many of the restaurant's customers are office workers, especially at lunchtime. During weekends, the Guetaria attracts many people, especially the fairly well-heeled, but, being a spacious place, families, too. The restaurant exudes an aura of warmth with its colorful walls, mahogany furniture and open brickwork, giving the place an authentic and personal touch. The Asador Guetaria specializes in fish, which they offer in delicious varieties. Check website for details.
Casa Rufo was founded in 1955, but not as a restaurant; it was originally a shop and, although it has been a restaurant for five years, it has not abandoned its original business. Casa Rufo is, then, probably different from any other restaurant. A rustic atmosphere is created by the stone and wood decor. It is the restaurant of choice for 'executives, politicians, artists, foreigners, etc...' The specialty here is meat. The visitor here should try a good Chop or Fillet Steak. The Cod Fillet is also very well prepared, as are the Paté and the Anchovies. They also assure us that the croquettes are a lot of people's favourites. Besides this there is also an exhaustive selection of wines to chose from.
Almost half a century in business guarantees the fame of Guria, one of the best restaurants in Bilbao. The Guria has two dining rooms: one á la carte and the other a cafeteria, which has almost managed to be more successful than the original. In this 'cafeteria' you can order the same high quality dishes at more accessible prices. Elegant interiors, luxurious cooking: what more could you ask for? Recommendations include the cod either 'al pil-pil' (very slowly simmered) or 'a la Vizcaina', Irish toast, peppers stuffed with veal and goose livers, oxtail in red wine, and rice pudding with milk and pears. Housed in an old warehouse, the Asador Kerren has been a local favorite for the tasty fare it has on offer. Grilled meats and fish are the specialties and they're best accompanied by fine wines like Viña Vallabona. The interior perfectly evokes the style and atmosphere of an authentic old tavern, with bare stone walls lit by old-fashioned wrought-iron lamps. The lunchtime clientele tends to be office workers, but this place is also popular among tourists who want a taste of the local flavors.
