Originally home to the White Swan Pub in the 18th Century, The City Varieties became a music hall in 1865 and remains one of the few and best-maintained in Britain even today. In its heyday, performers such as Houdini and a pre-fame Charlie Chaplin graced its dais; though today Ken Dodd and Joe Pasquale are more likely candidates. However City Varieties organizes a wide range of entertainment including cabaret, opera, musicals and, notably, it's a major venue in the city for stand-up comedians.

The Howard Assembly Room is an exponent of grand Victorian architecture. Housed within the Opera North Centre, this exquisite hall was opened in the year 1879, for performances and events. It has evolved into one of the most elegant and esteemed event venues of Leeds. Howard Assembly Room stages events from music concerts to theatrical acts, from magic shows to cultural talks, seminars and more. The room can also be hired for large-scale private events.

Since opening in 1878, The Grand has staged an incredible range of performances and played host to some of the most famous names in theater. From ballet and opera, to stand-up comedy and drama, the Grand has been entertaining audiences with diverse tastes for over 100 years. In this time, it has developed associations with several esteemed companies; including the English National Ballet and Opera North. The Grand also stages a number of one-off performances. Standing its ground, despite the growing success of the West Yorkshire Playhouse, the Grand retains its traditional balconies and décor, giving it a historic character not present in modern establishments. Opened in 1908 as a hotel, the Hyde Park became a cinema in 1914 and remains one of the few picture palaces in Britain battling the growth of multiplexes with the help of its determined supporters. A listed building, the Hyde Park has been lovingly preserved and maintains its original features, such as the exterior façade, gas lighting and its stunning Edwardian balcony. The only cinema hall in Leeds to offer 'art house' films, in addition to mainstream and classic films, the Hyde Park is the most unique cinema experience in the city. There are regular matinees during weekends.

Of the three single-screen cinemas in the neighborhood, Cottage Road is the oldest movie theater in Leeds. With just one screen, it lacks the choice offered by multiplexes, but shows a selection of the latest general releases. Recommended for its cheaper popcorn, compared to its multiplex counterparts, whose prices usually require some kind of overdraft extension! Easily accessible from the city center as well.
