Atlanta Beltline

A public redevelopment project, the Atlanta Beltline has established itself as one of the city's most popular recreation spots, and the location hosts marathons and other sporting events. Visitors to the Beltline can hike, bike, and walk the park's many trails or even visit the Historic Fourth Ward Skatepark. The non-profit organization backing the Beltline also offers guided tours of the area explaining various aspects of the project, its history, goals, and purpose.

Inside CNN Studio Tour

Get in on the daily action by touring CNN's facilities. You'll get a feel for live television when you get a bird's-eye view of an actual newsroom in action as well as learning about the other CNN networks. Oakland Cemetery

In the shadow of downtown, this bucolic expanse is a constant reminder of the city's history. Dating from the 1850s, the cemetery was the final destination for all Atlantans until 1884, when private burial grounds began appearing throughout the city. The oldest section is near the main entrance, where legendary golfer Bobby Jones and author Margaret Mitchell are interred, although locating Mitchell's plain headstone can be a challenge. A brochure from the cemetery office will help you find famous graves and interesting sections. Tours are offered March through October.

Tour of Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birth Home

Located within the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site, King Birth Home is where one of America's most influential civil rights activists and leaders was born. The 19th Century house, has been rather well-preserved, with all its rooms and period furniture intact. Visitors to the historic site can explore the the house through the guided tours offered by the park rangers. Advance registration is required for the tour. Call ahead for more information.

The popular neighborhood tours take you through Victorian Grant and Inman Parks or around the winding streets of Frederick Law Olmstead's Druid Hills. The Center offers ten different tours. Decatur Ghost Tours

Decatur was already a bustling little town when its nearby neighbor Atlanta was founded.
