This venue was built in 1929 and was the largest movie theater in California until 1985, when it was renovated for $6 million and became home to the San Diego Symphony. The symphony has been in service for the over 97 years. Many renowned conductors have led the symphony. Call ahead for exact timings.
For many years, the Spanish Village has been the site of working artists and artisans in the beautiful setting of Balboa Park. Shop or simply browse through the artwork of several local juried artists. Artwork currently on display includes jewelry, fountains, sculpture, mixed media and stained glass works. Some of the artists represented here are Beth Banning Duncan, Miriam Reed, Mary Ella Fetzer, Jean Schindler and June Warren.
The bustling public retreat known as City Heights Urban Village provides a wide array of services which includes a recreation center, library, gymnasium, pools, etc. The Performance Annex provides an outdoor stage for music and entertainment purposes. The Performance Annex is located between the library and the recreation center. Many budding artists meet up often at the recreation center to hone their skills and showcase the final product at the Performance Annex. Staging is free and restricting to only those above 15.
