Located in the hip and posh Galleria area, this Tex-Mex old-timer offers a good time to all. The traditional Mexican decor inspires fun and conversation. Fajitas are always an excellent choice. Other delights on the menu include enchiladas, tamales and tacos. All are good and served in generous portions. Go easy on the complimentary chips or you will be full before your meal arrives.

Freebirds World Burrito

A hallmark with the local college kids searching for cheap, filling food, Freebirds offers huge burritos with a vibrant atmosphere and a quick turnaround. Located between Rice University, Upper Kirby and Montrose, Freebirds welcomes all comers interested in finding a custom made burrito big enough to satisfy for two or three days. Steak, chicken breast, dark meat chicken, black beans, ranchero beans, cilantro, death sauce and more can all be found on your tortilla. If you are feeling adventurous try the super monster and have them add barbecue sauce. But don't expect to want to eat for at least a week.

El Tiempo Cantina

Vintage photographs of family members provide a charming ambiance. Due in part to the location, this restaurant enjoys a great deal of popularity with artists and business people alike. Outdoor seating is tempting in fair weather. Traditional Tex-Mex dominates the menu, but an unusual alternative is available in the form of Mollejitas, or sweetbreads. Of course, they are not for the faint of heart, so order with caution and enjoy. Finish off your meal with some sopapillas or flan.

Caracol is the awe-inspiring restaurant which is famous for blending the fresh taste of sea food, with complex Mexican flavors. Located in uptown Houston, this lively little restaurant seems to be catching up with foodies of this city. Chef Hugo Ortega and Tracy Vaught put their culinary expertise on offer, to create an eclectic menu, that will please everyone's taste buds. Petalos de Huachinango, which is the red snapper with tangerine and Coctel de Pulpo Almendrado, which is the Spanish octopus with almond, green olive and caper; are some of the delicacies that are absolutely do justice to Mexican flavors and seafood.
