Royal Gorge Regional Museum & History Center
"Fueled by a Passion for History"
Built in 1927, the Municipal Building was constructed with aid from Dall DeWesse - a local businessman with a keen interest in local history and a passion for its preservation. DeWesse's help came with the stipulation that the second floor of the building be reserved for use as a museum, the foundations of which he laid himself with the generous donation of his collection. When the government offices outgrew the Municipal Building, a new City Hall was built to accommodate them, leaving the vacated rooms free to hold an ever expanding museum collection. The History Center soon moved in as well, granting visitors a more complete offer. Now known as the Royal Gorge Regional Museum & History Center, the historic building caters to those with an interest in regional history and culture, through an informative array of exhibits, artifacts and artwork. The building itself is remarkable, and features on the National Register of Historic Places.
