Lake Gairdner National Park
"Arid Desert Park"
Lake Gairdner National Park is made up of three saltwater lakes: Lake Harris, Lake Everard, and the eponymous Lake Gairdner. An otherwise traditional picture of the Australian desert, the park is best to visit in the spring, when the temperatures have cooled, the birds are singing, and the botany is at its best. One of the greatest features of Lake Gairdner National Park is its historic significance as the traditional territory of the Kokatha people. Stop by the Glenloth Gold Battery Site when you visit, an archeological site included on the South Australian Heritage Register. Access to the park is limited, and the best entry point is at The Brothers Well, a roadside catchment near Moonarie station.
