For an educational day out with the kids, visit the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History located in Bayfront Park. What really draws visitors to this museum are the replicas of the Pinta, Niña and Santa Maria; the ships that Christopher Columbus sailed upon when he arrived in the Americas. Guided tours of the ships are available every hour and are included in the price of admission. Aside from the ships, the museum has a number of exhibits that highlight the region. From paleontology and ecology to agronomy and the history of Corpus Christi, this museum is a veritable treasure trove of education in the region.
Built in 2005, this family friendly baseball field is a favorite summertime destination for locals. Sitting right next to the bay with views of the Harbor Bridge, every seat is a good seat. The park is reminiscent of old-fashioned fields from baseball's Golden Age and the popular fast-food chain Whataburger offers all the modern amenities you would see in an MLB stadium. All concession stands are designed so that patrons never have their back to the field and never miss a play. The kid's area features a playground, mini baseball diamond and full-sized basketball court. There's even a pool overlooking the field that can be rented for large groups or parties.
The Congressman Solomon P. Ortiz International Center in Corpus Christi is one of the city's premier event venues, hosting everything from conferences, weddings, business meetings, corporate programs, private parties and award functions. Their catering and decorative services are world-class and ensure that your special event looks and pans the way you want it to. Bookings must be done at least ten days before the event.
The park formerly known the Corpus Christi Greyhound Race Track is the place to go if you want to see animals race their hearts out. The tracks present greyhound and horse races which equal a day of excitement. There are concession stands and a grandstand from where you can place your bets, and during the summer months, the indoor salon is air-conditioned, enclosed and well-furnished. Complimentary entry and parking every Wednesday through Sunday.
At the South Texas Speedway, racing fans can say they attended an event at one of the Top 50 racetracks in the country. Some of the cars on the track include late-model, modified and stock models, each one with a powerful engine that deafens the ears. It's a family-friendly facility, where during intermission, little ones 12 and under can try their luck on the go-karts.
Located just off South Padre Island Drive, Funtrackers Family Fun Center is the go-to place for entertaining the kids. Adults will also enjoy the place, since they can play a game of miniature golf, ride the bumper boats, play in the enormous arcade hall, or drive their go-karts to victory as well. With a lot of different tracks, the races cater to people of all ages and the venue is also perfect for birthday parties or other events.
