Established in 1977, Zoológico da UFMT had humble beginnings, housing animals found on the sprawling campus. Today, the zoo houses a rich diversity of native wildlife, with no less than 75 species. The zoo houses a major collection of endangered species, many of which had to be rescued. The beautifully landscaped zoo, with artificial water bodies and expansive enclosure for its residents makes for a relaxing exploration.
