The imposing cathedral standing at the bustling Praca Tirandetes, is one of the city's finest architectural legacies. The current structure of the Catedral Basílica Menor Nossa Senhora da Luz was built in 1893, but the church's history dates back to the 17th Century. Built in the Neo-Gothic style, the cathedral's interior features are as impressive as its striking facade. The cathedral was elevated to the status of a basilica in 1993, a century after it was built.
Museu Municipal de Arte (MuMA) was established in 1988 and features a collection of artworks including folk art from Poty Lazzarotto, Mohamed Ali El Assal, Jorge Carlos Sade, Andrade Muricy, Ben Ami and Cleusa Salomão. It also showcases a few reputed Paraná artists in the contemporary art scene such as Karina Weidle, Dulce Osinski, Luciano Buchmann and Eliane Prolik. The Sala Célia Neves Lazzarotto contains the permanent exhibition of Celia and Poty Lazzarotto's personal collection which has Pancetti, Picasso and many other great painters. Located in the Centro district of Curitiba, Teatro Guaíra is a major cultural facility maintained by the state. Teatro Positivo is a theater located in the Positivo University campus in the city of Curitiba. This amphitheater is one of the largest in the region and has two theatre spaces, the Positive Theater small auditorium with a seating capacity of 714 people and the grand auditorium with a capacity of around 2400 spectators. Designed on the lines of a Greek amphitheater, this venue has been the host of several musical and performing arts shows. Teatro Barracão EnCena is located in the heart of the city. This theater has been at the forefront of Curitiba’s culture scene since opening in 2007. It houses an auditorium with a seating capacity for 158 persons, an exhibition space, a garden area and several dressing rooms. It plays host to an eclectic schedule of cultural festivals and performing arts events.
The Teatro de Bonecos Dr. Botica keeps the art form of puppetry alive. This theater, located in the Shopping Estação, was established in 2001. It creates and showcases an amazing program of bonequeira and puppetry that attracts a large number of visitors. The space seats about 100 spectators and their 10-minutes window spectacles are a big hit among children.
