Must Visit Attractions in Darwin

, 4 Options Found

One of Australia's most stunning tourist destinations, Litchfield National Park is a natural Eden. Located in Batchelor, this park is filled with gorgeous pools, cascading waterfalls, and beautiful forests. Some of its most scenic waterfalls include the Wangi Falls, the largest in Litchfield, the Tjaetaba Falls, home of the Aborigines, and the Florence Falls. Visitors can stroll along Walker Creek, a frequented picnic site surrounded by picturesque pools and woodlands. One of the quirkiest and most interesting attractions is the cluster of 2-meter (7-feet) tall termite mounds found on site. Home to several natural wonders, Litchfield Park makes a fantastic day trip.

Spread across 42 hectares (103.8 acres) just north of Darwin's central business district, the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens showcase native and non-native plants representing a variety of ecosystems. The site's renowned collection of monsoon flora includes mangroves and Tiwi Islands wet forest species, which are displayed alongside tropical orchids, bromeliads, cycads, palms, and gingers. Established in 1886, and later restored after cyclone damage in the late-twentieth century, the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens continues to be a refreshing stop for visitors to the Northern Territory's capital. The gardens offer visitors a host of activities at the orientation center, children's playground along with guided or self-exploratory tours. There's also a cafe inside perfect for a visit when the hunger pangs hit.

With Australia already well known for its natural adventures, the Crocosaurus Cove takes it a notch upwards. Nestled in the core of Darwin, the Crocosaurus Cove offers an experience of a lifetime to the thrill seekers who wish to get close to the crocodiles. A safe way to experience quintessential Australian wildlife adventure, the attraction allows visitors to take a look at these prehistoric beasts through a secured cage which is lowered into the crocodile tank. Those who may not be into this daredevilry can comfortably observe the fierce crocodiles from a distance or visit the reptile center which shelters world's largest display of Australian reptiles. A one-of-a-kind experience, the savage saltwater crocodiles, whether gliding unperturbed or boasting their position in wild world, are an awe-inspiring sight to behold.

Located inside the Litchfield National Park, Magnetic Termite Mounds are striking structures constructed by Amitermes meridionalis or the magnetic termites. Painstakingly built by a species of termites found only in Northern Australia, these mounds tower several feet high above the ground, and are must-visit for any traveler exploring Darwin and its environs. Vivid in shapes and sizes, these mounds are great examples of nature's artistic side.
