Als klein und fein, aber auch einflussreich gilt das 1984 gegründete Architekturmuseum. Das privat getragene Haus weist eine Ausstellungsfläche (verteilt auf vier Stockwerke) von ca. 400 Quadratmetern auf. Das Gebäude selbst ist eines der wenigen Zeugnisse moderner Architektur aus den fünfziger Jahren in Basel. Dass die Wahl auf dieses Haus fiel ist kein Zufall, soll dadurch doch eine erste Ahnung der hier gesetzten Schwerpunkte vermittelt werden. Im Vordergrund stehen die Schweizer Architektur der Moderne, die zeitgenössische, internationale Architektur und zu guter Letzt soll hier ein grenzüberschreitendes Schauen ermöglicht werden. So sollen unter anderem die Verbindungen zwischen Kunst und Architektur genauer ausgeleuchtet werden.
