Dieser Club im alten Stil ist für alle Sprecher und Schüler der walisischen Sprache geöffnet und hält sogar während des Tages walisische Übungskurse ab. Das Gebäude zieht sich über drei Etagen hinweg; ein Merkmal, das gut genutzt wird, indem man eine unterschiedliche „Szene” auf jeder Ebene beherbergt, um eine Vielzahl von Musikgeschmäckern abzudecken. Jeden Abend treten verschiedene neue und feste Bands auf. Ein Anhaltspunkt bezüglich des Erfolgs ist, dass mehrere berühmte Bands, wie Catatonia und die Manic Street Preachers hier schon gesehen wurden.

Prince of Wales

A member of the JD Wetherspoon chain, The Prince of Wales is Cardiff's biggest pub. Set close to the city's bus station, the building is a converted theater, which has been carefully and tastefully restored, keeping many of the original features; the atmosphere can be surprisingly peaceful, despite the crowd. There's no music, no big-screen TV, and door staff are on duty on match days (no football shirts allowed). With a reputation for cheap beer, you will also find the Wetherspoon menu of bar food, which includes a good variety of light meals and is reasonably priced.

TigerTiger Cardiff

The TigerTiger in Cardiff, located in the center of the city, is one stylish and chic joint. With two floors of pure entertainment, it brings the true spirit of New York to Cardiff. From disco to live music, it offers everything and is jam-packed throughout the night. It is best if one gets a VIP entry here to escape the huge waiting lines at the bar. The informal and trendy ambiance ensures that you keep coming back for more.

The Coronation Tap

The Coronation Tap is Clifton's only cider pub with many varieties of the fermented apple on offer, including many local brews. The drink of choice is the exhibition cider, which is so potent that it can only be served in half pints (but there's no limit to how many you can buy!) The decor is rustic, complete with large wooden barrels holding the aforementioned brews and also acting as stools etc. Sport gets its fair TV screening and it seems popular with rugby followers for some reason. On a Friday night in term-time, it gets packed with trust-funded Bristol University students and can get loud and rather boisterous.

Highbury Vaults

Its very dark, slightly musty interior, gives it a distinctly Victorian feel. Outside in the leafy garden bar, however, the rows of benches and the very welcome gas burning heaters create a slightly Mediterranean and more contemporary atmosphere. The overall effect is one of a classic ale house, and it is very popular with older locals, students and real ale aficionados alike. The pub menu includes stews, chili, salads and curries.

Browns

The magnificent Venetian facade of the Browns building matches its high-quality food and drink and the somewhat lavish ambiance inside. The outside tables serve as a hip student/professional hang-out, making it very much a place to be seen. Everything is rather grand and impressive: the food ranges from Mediterranean-inspired dishes to old favorites such as steak and Guinness pie. As for drinks, you could stick to wine or beers, but when you can get cocktails mixed and shaken before your very eyes, why would you have anything else? It really comes alive in the summer, with barbecues held on the terrace and there's live jazz on Friday and Sunday evenings throughout the year.

Mad Dog Brewing Co Ltd started out as a small brewery in the kitchen of Alexis Jones and today, with their specialty brews, are in high demand all over the city. Their 5 core beers combine flavors that are unique with full notes and are brewed using the finest ingredients. The Bohemian Hipster is a deep pale ale and one of the favorites. All of their brews are available either by the bottle, keg or cask at very reasonable rates.

Pipes Artisan Brewery
