If you are coming to Lubbock for some sort of large event, chances are that it will be held in the Memorial Civic Center. Dedicated to the people who lost their lives in the 1970 Lubbock Tornado, the Civic Center was constructed just after the tornado and showed the spirit and resilience of the people of Lubbock. The Center has an exhibit hall, a banquet hall, theater, pedestrian mall & plaza, and meeting rooms. The largest space, the exhibit hall, can seat just under 5,000 in auditorium style seating.

Exactly the kind of theater organization that should be in every community, the Lubbock Community Theatre (LCT) has been around in Lubbock since the 1940s and continues to provide live community theater. This organization allows ordinary citizens to take on new roles and experiences perhaps far different from their everyday lives. Each year, around 7 pieces are produced as well as 9 performances by individuals and provide year-round enrichment to the community. The theater is also very active with young ones, with the “Fairie Tale Tea Party” and a children's musical theater program. LCT is also partly responsible for Shakespeare in the Park during the summers. Aspiring playwrights should also take note that LCT has performed several plays by local authors. All shows are rated to assess suitability of different ages.
