Denali

Formerly known as Mount McKinley, Denali was rechristened with its native name by President Obama in 2015. With its summit at a height 20,310 feet (6,190 meters) above sea level, the ice-capped peaks of this lofty massif dominate the horizon for miles around, the crown jewel of the Denali National Park and Preserve. Five large glaciers form frozen rivers down its sides, forever clad in a sheath of snow that drapes the mountain in a cloak of the purest white; a blank canvas for the vibrant hues of the setting sun. A part of the Alaska Range, it is also one of the coldest places on earth, its frigid slopes a challenging climb that stymies even some of the most skilled mountaineers.

Mount Whitney

Found on the boundary of Inyo National Forest and Sequoia National Park, Mount Whitney is known for attracting tourists because of being one of conterminous United States’ tallest peaks. A popular hiking spot, one of the well-known routes runs parallel to Inyo National Forest. The top of the summit, apart from providing panoramic views of the park, also rewards climbers with an enchanting sunrise.

Lassen Peak

Mount Olympus

Due to the challenging climb, mountaineers are expected to be equipped with sturdy climbing boots and other gear. Camping enthusiasts must take a permit to camp at the scenic Glacier Meadows and Elk Lake. This majestic natural monument is considered an International Biosphere Reserve and a World Heritage Site.

Guadalupe Peak

Set at a height of 8751 feet (2667 meters), Guadalupe Peak is a part of the Guadalupe Mountains National Park in Texas. To get to the top, visitors can hike along the 4.25-miles (6.8 kilometers) long trail and revel in the panoramic views of the surroundings rugged mountains, valleys and the rocky canyons. Hiking to the summit is a popular activity amongst adventure seekers in the area. Due to the strenuous hike, hikers are required to wear strong and sturdy hiking boots.
