"The Trolley", as everyone in Marseille calls it, is undoubtedly the most frequented and symbolic night-time bar in town. Once inside the maze of 4 rooms, in the heart of town, one discovers a fascinating décor: galleries with different types of music, a bowling area and a whisky bar. All the four rooms: Whisky Bar, Abribus, Terminus and Trolley bar offer different delights, some of which are equipped with facilities to host various events:concerts, product launches and so on.There's something for everyone here.

During the holiday period this is one of the busiest "pre-night-club" spots around. Bistrot Plage draws in the young crowds who like house music, to get their evening off to a good start before going to the clubs. There is a student night every week, with a different theme every time, including barbecues, tapas and a host of other delights. DJ Momo sets the atmosphere alight with his decks and Saturday nights invariably turn into a real fiesta.

The Equinoxe is one of the main bistros at Escale Borély, where it is nice to sit at the terrace and sip a cool drink or grab an ice cream on a hot summer day. During the windy Mistral (chilling Provençal wind born in the Alps) days, the terrace is sheltered behind small bay windows and pleasantly heated in mid-season. Inside, the decor is unsurprisingly very “beachy”, with sea themed booths and pictures on the walls. A great view of the sea and close proximity to the Prado beaches are what make the Equinoxe a nice place to visit, but like most of these seaside places the menu may seem overpriced. The restaurant serves fish specialties like grilled sea bream and shellfish platters.

La Rhumerie is a bar/brasserie right on the Escale Borely, near the beach. The mood there is friendly and welcoming, the food and service are good but it is best to come to chat and sip a drink in the cool shade of a beach umbrella, or to let loose on the dance floor to the DJ’s rhythms. At the Rhumerie there are all sorts of rums, both traditional and infused, cocktails, and the mojito is fixed in five different ways. There are smoothies for those who prefer no alcohol. The Rhumerie is also a private beach in the summer. Theme nights are organized from time to time: singles nights, speed dating, concerts or after-work.

Located just across the road from Prado beach in the city's upmarket district, Le Red Lion's generous happy hours, jazz or blues concerts one Thursday each month, and performances by budding local rock bands on Wednesday nights are popular with a young crowd. Sit back and enjoy the pub's traditional décor of wooden furnishings and brass, while sampling from its superb range of beers and single malts. Cheers!
