Located between Botha's Hill and Drummond, Phezulu Safari Park is highly recommended. It lies on the ridge overlooking the Valley of 1,000 hills. There is a good curio shop on site and two restaurants; try a four-wheel trip into the Valley of hills. The main attractions, however, are the interesting tour of the crocodile farm and the Zulu village and dancing show. There is also an animal farm and children's playground.
Amanzimtoti is just over 20kms south of Durban centre and is an attractive nature resort. The Amanzimtoti Bird sanctuary features a captivating self-guided trail, which winds through the forest. There are three hides from which you can see many of the 150 species of bird which visit the large expanse of open water in the sanctuary. You don't have to be serious about birds as the sanctuary offers a very scenic day out, but they do add their own happy music to the environment.
Ster-Kinekor Musgrave is located in the Musgrave Shopping Centre. It is in the leafy suburb of Musgrave, a few minutes drive from the city centre. It is run by the large Ster Kinekor Corporation, with over 10 screens and shows mainstream films. There is a counter where you can buy pop-corn and refreshments. Das Kwazulwazi Science Centre befindet sich ebenfalls vor Ort. Ausgestellt sind Modelle eines menschlichen Torsos, leuchtende Steine, Computer, Mikroskope u.v.a.m.
The Mitchell Park Zoo was initially set to be an ostrich farm, but when the plan didn't work, it was later turned into a vibrant zoo. An extensive collection of exotic birds, tropical fish, small animals and reptiles are housed in this pleasing setting. There are also spacious lawns for picnics. Easily accessed from the far end of Musgrave road.
