Tracing back to 1180, the Château de Roquefixade is a ruined castle built on a cliff overlooking the village of Roquefixade, located near Lavelanet department of Ariège, France. The castle had provided refuge to the Cathars during the Albigensian crusade. Several alterations were made upon the castle between the 14th to the 16th century until the French king Louis XIII rested in the castle during a journey to Toulouse. The Château was listed as a national heritage or a monument historique in 1995 by the French Ministry of culture.
Grotte de Lombrives is a cave situated in the Tarascon-sur-Ariège region in southwest France. First excavated in the 19th century, the cave is a treasure trove of rare minerals and is the longest in the country with a length of 39 kilometers (24 miles). Graced with beautiful formations of stalactites and stalagmites, Lombrives is a popular tourist attraction and conducts a number of interesting tours through the caves.
Another beautiful mountain lake, the Étang de Peyregrand lies in the Pyrenees and is a popular hiking destination. Experience the beautiful hike to the lake as you cross lush woods, beautiful valleys and brightly-colored blossoms on the way. Marshes and grass are found on the shores. The water is shallow and offers ample fishing opportunities. The common fishes here are the minnows, trout and salmon. The lake is also said to feed the artificial Lac de Gnioure through an underground channel.

Surrounded by towering mountains and rolling green pastures, the lake is a beautiful sight to behold at the end of a long hike uphill.
