A whale watch is a must when visiting Cape Cod. Step aboard a 100-foot boat and travel past the Cape Cod National Seashore to the open ocean. The boats concentrate on an area known as the Stellwagen Bank - a deep fissure in the ocean floor that is home to a favorite whale delicacy, the sand eel. Naturalists narrate during the cruises. There is a snack bar on board and passengers can bring their own picnic. The trip takes about four hours.

This Cape house with a large bow-style roof was built in 1741 and once belonged to Nathaniel Swift, a pioneer in the meat-packing industry. The wide floorboards, a narrow ship's-cabin staircase and large fireplaces in every downstairs room are typical of 18th-century homes in the area. The house is fully furnished with period antiques and clothing. Behind the house is a Tool Museum featuring numerous antiques, including early cranberry sorters and implements used in saltworking. Burgess, a native of nearby Sandwich, was a naturalist as well as a storyteller, and the Burgess Society runs this center adjacent to the 57-acre briar patch in his memory. There are nature trails, a wildflower garden, a host of programs, the Robert S. Swain Natural History Library, and a jam kitchen and gift shop. Admission by donation The Thorton W Burgess Museum, filled with Peter Rabbit memorabilia, is three miles to the west, in Sandwich.

This lighthouse, on a bluff near the historic town of Oak Bluffs, has been standing since the year 1878. The present tower, standing at 40 feet tall (12.19-meter), was constructed in 1875, but the original dwellings and outbuildings have since been demolished. The gleaming white tower was painted a deep, chocolate brown in the past. The flashing green light serves as a marker for the U.S. Coast Guard. The grounds are open to the public and the interior is occasionally open for tours. It is presently operated by the Martha's Vineyard Historical Society.

The Eastham Windmill was built by Thomas Paine in Plymouth in 1680. Later it was moved to Truro and then to Eastham where it is located today. It is a venue for the Eastham Windmill Weekend festival that is held here on the first weekend after Labor Day. Due to it's historic importance the windmill has found a place in the National Register of Historic Places.

Other activities at the park include swimming, shell fishing, canoeing, kayaking and even restricted hunting on Washburn Island, which is accessible only by boat. The reserve also includes the 500-acre (202 hectares) South Cape Beach State Park, which is known for its swimming beach.
