Die kleine romanische Kirche ist das einzig verlbliebene Gebäude eines Klosters aus der Zeit um 1000. Sie liegt heute einsam an den Hängen des Velino-Berges: ein kunsthistorisches Schmuckstück und ein Ort mit besonderem Charme. Die Besichtigung der Kirche ist nur nach vorheriger telefonischer Anmeldung bei Signora Costanza möglich; Spenden sind erwünscht.
Museo Nazionale d'Abruzzo is spread over three floors within Forte Spagmolo. Inaugurated in 1951, the first floor is dedicated to archaeology and they have on display the skeleton of a mammoth which was excavated in 1954. They also have other artifacts dating back to the Italian and Pre Roman period and a Roman Calendar dating back to 25 AD. The first floor is dedicated to pieces of art by great Flemish and Roman artists and they mainly focus on medieval and modern art. The paintings on display dates back to as far as the 13th century and they also have wooden terracotta pieces on display.
The Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park is one of Italy's largest, its borders encompassing a staggering 150,000 hectares (370,658 acres) of land. Situated in the central region of Italy, Forte Spagnolo is a castle made from stones boasting of Renaissance architectural designs. The history of this fort can be traced to as early as 16th Century when it was constructed. It was constructed for residential purposes and for maintaining law and order in the city as the cannons faced the city. This castle was built by the veteran architect Pedro Luis Escrivà who strategically designed the fort to be independent and defensive. During the 19th Century, this place was used as a jail, while during the World War, it was used by the German army as their military headquarters.Presently, this structure is used as a museum gallery and is a popular tourist attraction of the town.
Auf 1.000 m Höhe liegen die Ruinen des antiken Alba Fucens. Die Stadt wurde um 304 v. Chr. von Rom an einem strategisch günstigen Ort als Kolonie gegründet. Sehenswert sind die Thermen, eine Basilika und besonders das Amphitheater der Stadt, die spätestens im 10. Jh zerstört wurde.
